Puget Sound Stream Benthos

UPD Project, King County - DNRP

King County Water and Land Resources Division collected benthic macroinvertebrate samples from seven creeks draining the Trilogy and Redmond Ridge Urban Planned Developments (UPDs) between 1999 and 2010. The benthic macroinvertebrate sampling was part of a larger overall monitoring program designed to assess whether stormwater facilities installed on the developments were working as designed and to evaluate any significant changes to the natural resources affected by the Trilogy and Redmond Ridge UPDs.

Benthic macroinvertebrate sampling protocols used a Surber sampler with 500 micron mesh to collect three 1 sq. ft samples from a single riffle. The substrate was disturbed for 60 seconds for each square foot collection and each sample was processed, stored, and identified separately (not composited into one sample). Chironomids were identified to family level.
